II. CONTENT OF THE CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION


The certification examination is comprised of questions across ten (10) knowledge domains underlying rehabilitation counselling. Click here to go to the CRC Guide for additional information.

2. Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Disability (30 questions)

  • This page is presented by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta. It lists a huge number of conditions for you to explore.

  • This site titled Health, wellness, and aging with a disability also includes links to other health sites.

    Berkow, R. & Fletcher, A. J. (Eds.) (1999). The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, 17th Ed. Rahway, N. J.: Merck Research Laboratories. (Note: This is a great resource to have on your shelf. There is also a home edition, and now everything is also available on line, as noted above, so buying the book is optional).

    Brodwin, M. G., Tellez, F., & Brodwin, S. K. (Eds.) (2001). Medical, Psychosocial and Vocational Aspects of Disability, 2nd Ed. Athens, GA: Elliott and Fitzpatrick. (Note: The first edition was published in 1993 and reprinted in 1995. It would be fine for CRC preparation, but for your general reference use, it would be better to get the second edition, which is due out in August, 2001). This is the textbook used in MSU's Medical and Psychological Aspects of Disability course.

    III. GENERAL RESOURCES


    The links to government documents [primarily in the disability section] are in the public domain [these include .gov in the URL or Internet address]. These may be shared with others if you wish.

    Many of the journal articles found on this site can be accessed through the Michigan Electronic Library (MEL). Click here to take you to MEL
    At the database listing, start with:

    (1) The OCLC First Search database, specifying that you want to search by "title phrase."
    (2) Enter the title to determine whether a full text version of the article is available.

    State employees have the option of contacting the State Library for assistance.

    IV. CERTIFICIED REHABILITATION COUNSELOR CERTIFICATION



    Important Dates and Information to be Aware of Concerning the CRC Exam.

    A. Upcoming Exam Dates: October 27, 2001 & April 27, 2002 & October 26, 2002. Exam dates are usually scheduled on the last Saturday of 'April' and 'October' and only offered twice a year.

    (1) October 27, 2001 - MUST HAVE COMPLETED THE "APPLICATION FORM" AND POSTMARKED BY JUNE 15, 2001. Need to request an application or download the one available online (see below for contact information).

    (2) April 27, 2002 - MUST HAVE COMPLETED THE "APPLICATION FORM" AND POSTMARKED BY DECEMBER 15, 2001
